Genetic Testing for Hereditary Cancers

Does cancer run in your family? The Cancer Genetics Center offers genetic testing to determine if you are at a increased risk for developing certain cancers. Knowing your risk can help you and your doctor make better, more informed decisions about your health, before cancer has a chance to develop.

You should consider testing for Hereditary Cancer syndrome if any of the following factors apply to you or a close family member:

  • Breast cancer before age 50
  • Ovarian cancer at any age
  • Colon cancer before age 50
  • Endometrial cancer before age 50
  • Two primary cancers in an individual
  • Both breast and ovarian cancer in an individual or family
  • Male breast cancer at any age
  • Two or more breast cancers in a family, one under age 50
  • Women of Ashkenazi Jewish descent with breast or ovarian cancer at any age
